Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by Research in Psychotherapy

PhD
Full time, Part time

A thesis project for this PhD should explore the fundamental themes of therapies, such as listening and intervening in psychological disorders from multiple perspectives. If necessary, support it using herbs, homeopathy and floral remedies. Through the study of different theories and research, the candidate learns how to realize multiple perspective interpretations and develop their own therapeutic approach. Natural psychotherapy is not based on "rapid psychiatric pharmacological correction" therapies of exclusive medical openness. Rather, it focuses on obtaining permanent results by integrating the patient's neurophysiological and mental processes at a natural healing rate. This program allows students to analyze a conflict, interpret the corresponding problem and offer the best possible solution.

PhD in Mind, Brain and Human Thought (MBHT)
- Lucca, Italy
PhD
Full time
3 years
On-Campus
English
The MBHT PhD program offers advanced, interdisciplinary research training on the nature and evolution of human thought, mind, and behavior. By integrating neuroscience, psychology, philosophy of science, and the history of philosophy, the program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the human mind in its cognitive, affective, social, and cultural dimensions. MBHT embraces two complementary perspectives. On one hand, it promotes the study of human neurophysiology and psychology, exploring the mechanisms underlying mental functions and behaviors. On the other, it examines the historical and epistemological foundations of scientific knowledge and human thought, tracing their historical development from an intercultural perspective. MBHT trains researchers to conduct innovative analyses of human thought, behavior, and the brain, addressing both their biological and cultural foundations through advanced interdisciplinary methodologies. Graduates will be prepared to tackle complex scientific and societal challenges, contributing to advancements in fields such as mental health, intercultural understanding, and the ethics of technology. The program aims to shape a new generation of scholars who combine scientific rigor with a historical-philosophical perspective, fostering a non-reductionist approach to the complexity of the human mind.

The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.
