Introduction

The Ph.D. programme in International Relations provides a high-level of knowledge leading to proficiency in international relations. Doctoral candidates admitted to this programme must have a master’s degree in International Relations.

The main purpose of the doctoral programme is to impart comprehensive knowledge on all aspects of international relations, investigating problems in international relations and simultaneously being able to carry out high-level independent research. The programme provides candidates with opportunities to evaluate political and social changes in the global system, as well as theoretical, analytical and critical assessment of the foreign and domestic policies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, political issues and developments in the region.

In order to improve knowledge and share experiences, WCU regularly invites international experts in various fields including Colin Love from the UK, Randall Baker and Rise Kelsey from the US, Ross Douglas from Canada, and Emmanuel Arcon and Martin Cristobal from Spain. In addition, WCU offers doctoral students a chance to participate in the Erasmus Mundus programme to improve their research skills and gain international experience and exposure.
