Introduction
The Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) in Architecture programme of the Doctoral School covers architecture and urban architecture programmes dealing with various aspects of planning (architecture of social spaces, architectural planning and design, production environment planning, residential environment planning, settlement planning)
However, these fields are not strictly tied to specific topics or building types, but are more closely related to the professional and educational expertise and experience of the specific teachers and supervisors of the Doctoral School. Our intention is to provide our students with a historical perspective of our heritage, our responsibility towards the environment, and a coherent system of environmental and modern architectural aspects. It is in view of this that special emphasis is laid in the curriculum of our school on the individual program of activity of our doctoral candidates, which is built on the combination of creative artistic-technical activities and scientific research in a chosen field, in accordance with the specific feature of architecture being a combination of arts and science.
Admissions
Curriculum
The duration of the doctoral studies is 2+2 years, divided into 8 semesters. The education starts at the beginning of September in each academic year. In the first two years, students take courses and do research as well.
The first phase ends with a so-called complex examination that has two parts: measures the general knowledge in the research field and evaluates the research work carried out in the first two years. Doctoral students must present the research plan for the remaining period as well. If the complex examination is successful, students can enter the next phase.
In the second 2 years, there are no courses, only the research work should be continued and finished. Normally, at the end of this period, the dissertation should be completed and the defense process can be started.
To receive a DLA degree, students must accomplish the following:
- pass all courses (achieve the absolutism)
- pass the Complex Exam
- have a high-level architectural portfolio showing the architectural projects where the doctoral student was involved or designed on its own
- have one or more master projects that are already built according to the design of the doctoral candidate or is at least under construction
- prepare the DLA Dissertation
- defend the DLA Dissertation
