Introduction

PhD - Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the highest degree offered by the University of Otago. It is awarded on the submission of a thesis which must meet rigorous standards. It requires highly developed academic ability, independence and perseverance. Most students take between 3-4 years of full-time study to complete their PhD.

Otago Business School researchers are involved with a wide variety of research projects. These projects have the potential to contribute real value to the wider community, business, government, and the not-for-profit sector. The Otago Business School exists to push the boundaries of business knowledge and education. It is vital that we interact closely with the corporate world, to ensure that both our research and our teaching remain relevant to the current business environment. It is also important to us that we are able to ‘give back’ to the business community through our work.

We strongly encourage the business community to become involved in Otago Business School research activities. Staff or student researchers may be interested in any research suggestions you have. Your business concern may be a perfect research project for a student or group of students. A number of School Programs and papers require students to conduct independent (supervised) research into a real business problem.

This Program mainly focuses on Commerce.
