Introduction
This doctoral program aims to provide society with professional specialists in rural areas and civil engineering with an adequate capacity to diagnose existing problems and with the knowledge to solve them from applied research typical of the field of Engineering, placing special emphasis on in research, development and transfer of results. This qualification responds to a growing demand for professionals and applied researchers, since it is intended to provide students with advanced and quality scientific and technological training, thus contributing to rural and civil development.
Presentation
The doctoral program "Engineering for Rural and Civil Development" has as its background the Doctoral Program of the Department of Agroforestry Engineering of the University of Santiago de Compostela, which obtained the Mention of Excellence for the period 2011-2014. The Program includes 14 lines of research and 46 PhDs supported by the research groups of the Department of Agroforestry Engineering. Specifically, we can mention the following: Forest management. Projects and planning. Sustainable rural construction. Water management. Savings and energy efficiency. Photogrammetry and remote sensing. Civil and maritime engineering. Design of agricultural and food products. Numerical simulation in structures. Management of native hardwoods for cooperage. Agricultural mechanization. Milk production engineering. The Program has agreements and collaborations with research entities, which ensures, both for doctors and doctoral students, potential mobility in Spain and abroad.
