The PIDA is a postgraduate of high academic level, recognized by the National Postgraduate Program of Quality (PNPC) of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) as Consolidated Program. It emerged in an alliance of Universities of the Center-West Region, which, uniting their resources and competences, today offer a program that reaches the highest quality standards, which is decisively contributed by its Basic Academic Core, made up of twenty- academic training, high level of qualification and great experience in the field of research in Architecture. This doctoral program of great academic quality has existed since the year 2002 and was a pioneer of its kind in the Central Western Region of the country; in which the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, the University of Colima, the University of Guanajuato and the Michoacan University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo participate.

The PIDA was created in response to the imperative need to have people highly prepared in the areas of Architecture, capable of developing high level research and teaching activities in order to raise the academic quality of the educational programs that are offer in the region and in the country, as well as to encourage the generation and dissemination of knowledge.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The main objective of PIDA is to train highly qualified academic and professional cadres to produce knowledge, to carry out original research and to analyze, design and program proposals related to anthropic intervention on the territory, the city and the production, transformation and urban - architectural conservation, considering new analytical tools and perspectives that favor the improvement of the quality of life and the environmental conditions of the region and the country.

CURRICULAR STRUCTURE

The PIDA is a research-based program, through the generation and application of knowledge and involves full-time dedication; has a tutorial character and is oriented to favor the academic interaction between the tutor and the student. The doctoral program lasts six semesters, during which the student must accredit the research seminars and thematic programmed as academic activities, the preparation of the thesis document and the defense of the same.

The PIDA is a relevant program with a coherent curriculum structure; the proposed activities favor the development of collegiate actions and a wide participation of the Tutors in the academic decision making. There is horizontal and vertical seriation and articulation of the curricular structure and the possibility of constant updating through the Specialty Thematic Seminars; In addition, the process of assessing, monitoring and evaluating students is done in a collegial manner.

The Program comprises a total of 220 credits, 180 corresponding to six Research Seminars and 40 corresponding to four Specialty Thematic Seminars. The PIDA works on three lines of very specific Generation and Application of Knowledge (LGAC): Architecture and City, Architecture and Environment and Architecture and Heritage.

Architecture and city

It focuses on the generation of knowledge about the phenomenon of urban-architectural production and reproduction. Its objective is to contribute new insights in relation to the architecture and the processes of territorial management, as well as to develop new methodologies for the investigation of the relationship between architecture and territory.

Architecture and environment

It focuses on the production of knowledge in relation to the environmental qualities of spaces and their interaction with users. It addresses the properties and qualities of materials, systems and devices for environmental suitability, seeks to develop research methodologies and design in its environmental dimension, as well as to generate appropriate technologies to the environment for building.

Architecture and heritage

It seeks to produce knowledge about the theory and history of architecture and urbanism, as well as new theoretical methodological proposals around the processes of conservation of the architectural object and urban-architectural ensembles. In addition, it intends to develop applied projects that contribute to the development of technologies for the conservation of the patrimonial architecture.

PROFILE OF APPLICATION

The aspirant to enter the PIDA must possess two qualities: academic aptitude and attitudinal characteristics. Academic proficiency includes:

1. Knowledge and experience in the formulation of research projects;
2. Reasoning, ability to analyze and synthesize, read and translate texts in a sufficient level of compression of two foreign languages, such as English, French, Italian, Portuguese.
3. Sufficient management of the computational tools and computer technologies needed for your research project;
4. Have previously attended a master's degree program in the fields of knowledge that the doctorate handles;
5. Ability to problematize and hypothesize around the facts and phenomena of urban architectural reality related to the lines of generation and application of knowledge that make up in doctoral program.

On the other hand, the attitudinal characteristics are translated in:

1. Ability to take leadership and promote the formation of research groups;
2. Willingness to keep up-to-date on the research line it develops;
3. Creativity to propose research projects, as well as the management of resources of the same;
4. Responsible and industrious attitude;
5. Ability to work individually and as a team;
6. Scientific, self-critical and reflective spirit.

The PIDA considers applicants who have completed undergraduate and master's degrees in architecture and / or urbanism, being able to participate in postgraduate courses in other related areas. Applicants to PIDA must possess knowledge and skills including skills and experience in the formulation of research projects in the Knowledge Generation and Application Lines (LGAC) that works the doctoral program; in addition, capacity for abstract reasoning, for analysis and synthesis and for oral and written expression in Castilian.
