Introduction

Kutaisi International University (KIU) is a top-rated public university in Georgia and the very first ultra-modern campus-based higher education institution in the Caucasus region. The university provides a modern, broad-based, residential education on a par with leading institutions in the U.S. and Europe. KIU teachers include national and international professors, top-rated experts in their fields. International professors employed are mainly from Germany, due to the strategic partnership between KIU and TUM International (a subsidiary to Technical University of Munich (TUM)). Our honorary president is the former president of TUM Prof. Wolfgang Herrmann. KIU is supported by the International Charity Foundation - CARTU with a donation of 1 billion euros. The goal of the university is to be an international hub of education, science, and technology in the region.

KIU campus is located in the city of Kutaisi, the third-largest city in Georgia (Sakartvelo). KIU campus is spread out on a beautiful 150 hectares of land in an environmentally clean forest with a river running through it.

A key part of KIU’s strategic plan is the opening of world-leading medical and scientific research centers. These will include a KU Hadron Therapy Centre (HTC) housing two cyclotrons, Proton Therapy Clinic for cancer treatment, and Cyclotron Research Lab for supporting international collaborative research in Medical and Experimental Physics, Radiation Biology, Chemistry, and multidisciplinary projects. The facilities at the Kutaisi International University Campus will be provided by IBA (Ion Beam Applications SA).

Innovation and Technology

The aim of Kutaisi International University (KIU) is to gradually develop into a hub of innovations and technology in the region. The University’s mission is to build the human capital that will support the development of innovations and new technologies. The students of KIU will be equipped with the skills that will meet labor market demand. The KIU curriculum provides opportunities to its students to enroll in internship programs developed and implemented in support of the private sector and employers.

Boosting innovations and supporting entrepreneurship in the region will be achieved through a cluster hub that KIU is developing in the future. KIU’s innovation ecosystem supporting activities are aimed to:

  • Provide structural support of innovations by nurturing start-ups
  • Foster long term value creation to generate future businesses
  • Inspire a corporate culture

KIU through its entrepreneurial strategy and activities covering research, training, and tech transfer aim to contribute to the establishment of a sustainable innovation ecosystem in Georgia and the wider region through the connection of people, disciplines, organizations, and sectors.

In 2021, KIU has established KIU Innovate – an innovations ecosystem platform that aims to support KIU’s engagement with the industry.

KIU Innovate covers three directions

  • KIU’s Industry Advisory Council – This high-level advisory council advises KIU on how to successfully engage industry and become a hub of innovations and technology in the region. The council members are representatives of chambers of commerce, business associations, and industry leaders.
  • KIU Corporate Partners – industry and government entities that are interested to partner with KIU on concrete projects and have partnership ideas that are mutually beneficial and on shared goals.
  • Innovation Ecosystem Platform – aims to support KIU students and graduates’ start-ups, organize technology transfers, create business incubators and implement other projects and activities promoting innovations.

Campus Features

The Kutaisi International University Campus is located in the environmentally clean area near Kutaisi (the second-largest city in Georgia), spread out on a beautiful 150 hectares of land, surrounded by a forest with a river running through it.

The Campus is well connected and easy to reach. It is situated 25 km from Kutaisi International Airport and is only 3 hours drive from the capital city of Georgia - Tbilisi. The Kutaisi International airport is connected with major European and world destinations. Kutaisi has a bus station and a railway station with regular bus and train routes.

KIU provides comfortable and fully furnished housing for students and academic personnel. The University offers modern and state-of-the-art laboratories, student facilities, cafeterias, libraries, co-working areas, an interactive learning management system, all of which will create a forward-thinking technology-oriented educational ecosystem.

KIU offers dormitories and housing for its students and staff on campus alongside all the necessary amenities for study, research, and rich student life.

    Admissions

    How to apply

    Foreign students interested in KIU programs should fulfill general requirements, have English proficiency (at least B1 Level), successfully pass KIU admissions interview and test (set up by the KIU admissions office), and fill out and present relevant forms and documents.

    Admissions Timeline

    For the 2022-2023 academic year international students can apply to KIU programs until August 2022.
