We are interested in the proximate mechanisms and functions of wildlife social behaviour. We are currently looking for a Ph.D. student that will study honesty in rock hyrax vocal communication. Just like we change the frequency and rate of our speech, depending on who we are talking to, hyrax does as well. However, whereas individual characteristics are related to song characteristics in hyrax solo songs, the relationship in counter-songs may change as a function of social and resident status, and other factors.
