The Ph.D. graduate in Romance languages is a highly qualified specialist trained to conduct research work in his/her field (the linguistics and philology of one or more Romance languages). He/she is able to interpret these languages in a qualified manner, applying a synchronic or diachronic approach and utilizing modern linguistic methods and research procedures.

Graduates of the doctoral program in Political Science have theoretical and methodological expertise and the ability to apply these skills to analysis as well as to critically reflect various approaches to analysis and to select relevant research methods. They have the ability to further develop their knowledge and participate in preparing and implementing international grant projects.

This international double degree study program is implemented on the basis of the relevant contract between Charles University and La Sapienza University of Rome dated December 6, 2018. The language of instruction is German. Germanoslawistik is a free program.

This international doctoral study program with a double degree is implemented on the basis of an inter-university agreement between Charles University and the University of Sapienza dated 6.12.2018. Training takes place in Russian. Education in the specialty of German Slavic studies is free.

The graduate of Germanic and Nordic Languages and Literatures is a highly educated expert who is qualified for research in his/her field, i. e., in Germanic and Nordic linguistics or literature. He/she is ready for scholarly work and further growth in the academic area. He/she is able to manage language and literary problems where language skills and philological work are required, or where the theory and history of individual literature in all its linguistic and historical-cultural contexts are needed.

The General Linguistics Ph.D. graduate is able to analyze in detail the variable and constant elements of language structure and function, both synchronically and diachronically. S/he understands the structure of linguistic theories, the way in which they are related, and also the empirical method of confirming or refuting them. S/he has an insight into the pragmatic and social context of language communication.

Graduates of the doctoral study program in Clinical and Health Psychology are experts in the latest and scientifically supported procedures with a critical view of their content and especially their methodological contexts. They have demonstrated a profound knowledge of both the field and the methodology of their major topic of interest, which was the topic of their dissertation project.

Graduates from the doctoral program in Auxiliary Historical Sciences are highly qualified scholars who are able to evaluate critically the results of earlier research in Auxiliary Historical Sciences, the history of management, and the theory of resources in addition to editorship and are able to work creatively in these fields in accordance with the international development in related scientific disciplines.

Graduates of the doctoral program in Asian History and Culture are highly qualified specialists in the area of their specialization. Their excellent command of a selected Asian language enables them to work critically with primary sources, and they have a solid grounding in secondary literature and contemporary research. Their excellent level of erudition enables them to pursue careers in the academia (universities, research centers, etc.); they can, moreover, seek employment in cultural institutions, diplomacy, mass media, specialized think-tanks, etc.

Graduates of the doctoral program in History/General History are highly qualified specialists equipped for independent and critical research, and possess a thorough knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural development of human society; they possess skills in working with published and unpublished sources, and the ability to adopt a critical approach to specialist writings, conduct basic research, produce theoretical generalizations and apply creative thinking to the analysis of historical facts and processes. Graduates are equipped for any profession requiring a university degree in history or related disciplines; they may seek positions in the academia as well as a wide range of institutions in culture, civil service, and politics.

Graduates possess a general knowledge of the problems of Latin America in relation to its historical development and characteristic culture that has evolved since the late 16th century, on the basis of pre-Colombian communities and immigration from colonial metropolises and Africa. Graduates have a knowledge of the basic facts of Latin American history, and the ability to learn new facts, being helped by the knowledge of the theory and methodology of the discipline. Graduates are familiar with the development of opinions on the basic problems of the region’s history, and the discipline’s institutions, personalities, periodicals, and key works. They have developed language skills in Spanish and English enabling them to study specialized literature and engage in discussions within the international scientific community.

The Public and Social Policy (PSP) doctoral study program prepares students for basic and applied research and teaching in academia as well as other types of activities requiring a high level of theoretical and methodological education in PSP. This program is open to all master's degree graduates or equivalent.

The study program is primarily designated for the graduates with a Master’s degree in Political Science or any other field of Social Sciences who intend to deepen their knowledge in Political Science, focusing on the issue of democratic and nondemocratic forms of government (changes in political systems, with a special emphasis on development trends connected with modernization and democratization, other issues of comparative analysis, including national and regional identities, or the analysis of individual elements of political systems).

Doctoral studies at the FSS are primarily research-based. However, students are also expected to attend a certain number of graduate seminars and lectures (the exact number depends on the subject), so it is not possible for students to complete their doctorate by research alone.
