Best 38 Doctorate Degrees in Chemistry 2019/2020

A Doctor of Philosophy degree, short Ph.D is an advanced academic degree earned in various fields, signifying major interests and accomplishments in research.

Of the physical sciences, chemistry is the branch most concerned with the unique properties of matter. These characteristics are often determined by studying the certain intermolecular forces within the matter itself. These interactions can form different substances altogether through chemical reactions.

The Department offers the degree Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry which is designed to better prepare doctoral-level chemists to enjoy productive careers in industrial laboratories, research foundations or academic institutions. In addition to the traditional Ph.D. curriculum, this program mandates that the student acquire the working knowledge of the type of research conducted in industry and of the constraints (both practical and philosophical) under which it is carried out.

To facilitate this, each student is required to spend one semester in an industrial or government research laboratory internship. This internship is obtained for the student by the Department and every effort is made to match the type of work and the company with the student's interests. This is an important part of the student's training that may also open up avenues for future employment. If a student already has industrial research experience, this internship requirement may be waived if the student so desires.... [-]

Chemistry as a discipline is growing and changing rapidly. The traditional divisions of Chemistry into analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry no longer reflect the dynamic and multidisciplinary nature of the field. Chemistry is, in fact, the "central science", having relevance in areas such as molecular biology, molecular physics, materials science, molecular engineering, biotechnology, environmental science, and drug design.

As a postgraduate student in the Department of Chemistry at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, you will have the chance to study in programmes that reflect the current, central, position of Chemistry and you will learn from diverse, innovative faculty at the forefront of their fields of research.... The primary goal of the Ph.D. course in chemistry is the training in order to obtain proper skills in the chemistry field, to carry on an independent and autonomous research activity. Such skills will be important to be spent in many different situations and institutions, in particular, public research institutions (like Universities and Research Institutes) or private companies. In this respect Ph.D., students will be trained with a continuous and intense experimental research activity as well as specific high-level courses, in order to be competitive at the international level. The future Ph.D. will be trained with all experimental and theoretical tools necessary to manage general problems which will be encountered when developing new chemical compounds or processes, as well as their industrial implications. Special care will be devoted to the international mobility opportunities and to the ability to present and rationalize the results in an effective manner.... [-]

NOWNano DTC: The North West Nanoscience Doctoral Training Centre

NowNano DTC students undertake a four-year doctoral training programme. A major aim of the DTC is to create a cohort of researchers that are able to draw on knowledge from a broad spectrum of sciences and to work in interdisciplinary teams. The challenge is to enable our students to understand the different languages and philosophies of disciplines as diverse as theoretical physics & astronomy and medicine. The aim of the first six months of the programme is to expose students to the full breadth of nanoscience and nanotechnology and to provide them with the skills and background knowledge that they will need during their Ph.D. projects in order to understand the diverse concepts and knowledge that they will inevitably encounter. To this end, the programme includes not only lecture courses and directed self-study (inquiry-based learning) but also extended (12 weeks-long) laboratory projects covering different aspects of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Also during this time, students will have an opportunity to learn about the available Ph.D. research projects through presentations by potential supervisors and visits to research labs. It is expected that many projects will be interdisciplinary, with co-supervision by academics from different Schools/Departments, providing students with access to the world-class facilities.... [-]

The Master in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology constitutes the period of formation of the Doctorate in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The universities of Valencia, Alicante, Jaume I, La Laguna and Castilla La Mancha participate in this doctorate.

This doctoral program has the Mention to Excellence (MEE2011-0370) granted by the General Secretariat of Universities of the Ministry of Education according to Resolution of October 6, 2011.

In recent years, certain scientific areas such as supramolecular chemistry, molecular biology, surface physics and low temperatures have reached a remarkable development in our country. Research groups have been formed that have achieved an excellent competitive position in the international area. In addition, in a natural way, the very object of research of these disciplines has been converging towards what is called Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Of the strategic importance in ID of these areas, the fact that they have been prioritized in all the National, European and International Programs of all developed countries is a good account. In these physical areas, chemists, biologists, doctors and engineers are in charge of obtaining, manipulating, organizing, studying and taking advantage of the properties of nano-sized objects. Maintaining today and in the future a truly competitive international position in some areas of Nanoscience, however, requires a level of competence that can only be achieved with a thematic focus and with adequate training of research personnel that allows them to acquire the multidisciplinary knowledge that these areas they need....
