The Luiss Ph.D. Program in Management is a disciplined – but not disciplinary – learning path for high potential doctoral candidates. It offers concentrations in strategy, organization, innovation and entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, and corporate finance. Primary areas of faculty research include business model innovation; corporate governance; finance for innovation; project-based organizing, technology transfer, and IPR management, international management; new venture formation, growth, and corporate entrepreneurship; organizational learning and adaptation; public management and accounting; social capital and innovation; and word-of-mouth-led innovation.
Faculty focuses on diverse empirical contexts ranging from the aerospace, creative, and telecommunications industries to the health service and the public sector. Luiss faculty has published papers in Administrative Science Quarterly, Industrial and Corporate Change, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Management, Journal of Marketing Research, Organization Science, Psychological Science, Research Policy, and Strategic Management Journal.
The Ph.D. program is comprised of four years of full-time study. The overall path consists of research and teaching training, a visiting period abroad, and dissertation preparation.
The first two years are dedicated to coursework. Year 1 consists of disciplinary courses in management and research methods. Year 2 is dedicated to courses on a chosen field of specialization, concluding with the development of a research proposal.
Years 3 and 4 are devoted to research and to dissertation preparation, culminating in the submission and defense of the thesis. Along the entire learning path, students are also exposed to seminars and workshops on publication strategies and approaches to the international job market.
The Ph.D. training courses are also open to students enrolled in Ph.D. programs of other universities, upon payment of a fee.
Application and admission
Six Positions with scholarship and one position without a scholarship (reserved for officials working for public institutions) available for enrollment in the Ph.D. program in Management at Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome, commencing in October 2020.
The chosen students, for the six positions with scholarship, will benefit from a financial support package which includes a tuition waiver and a stipend of €15,343.28 gross per year to cover living expenses for the duration of the four-year degree program. These students will also have access to funding for research trips, in addition to a grant increment if they spend a visiting period at a prestigious international university.
There has been a deferment of the terms established by D.R. n. 38 of 13 March 2020, concerning the deadlines for the competition by way of comparative evaluation for admission to Doctoral Research Programs – XXXVI cycle, published on the G.U. IV special series – Competitions and Exams – n. 29 of 10 April 2020, for the presentation of applications for admission.
The deadlines for presenting applications have been deferred to 13 July 2020, at 16:00 (CEST), UTC+2.
As a consequence, the following deadlines have also been deferred:
deadline for the publication of the admission classification: by 21 September 2020
commencement of Programs: by October 2020
There is no change to the deadline for attainment of the necessary title for access to the Doctoral Programs, which remains as 31 July 2020.
With regard to the selection phases for admission, it has been decided that:
the Oral Exam for admission to the Doctoral Program in Management will take place as outlined in Annex C attached to the decree.
Proof of possession of a master’s degree
Curriculum vitae, indicating all the qualifications held
National ID card/passport
List of publications together with the full texts of the publications or a self-declaration stating that no publications exist
