IntroductionThe Doctorate program in Information and Communication Technologies was taught for the first time in the 2000/2001 academic year, coinciding with the creation of the University Department with the same name. The areas of knowledge of the Department are Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and Telematics Engineering, which determine the basic contents of the program. Since its inception, the doctoral program has focused on research in these subject areas, with a large number of applications, year after year exceeding the demand for the available places.
The development of the call by some "Information Society" and by others "Society of Knowledge", has turned the information technology and telecommunications sector into one of the most active, fastest growing and with the highest specific weight on the indicators. macroeconomics of all advanced countries.
The European Commission has shown in recent years a special interest in jobs / research related to the Information Society, by promoting the use of new technologies in all social areas (eGoverment, eLearning, eHealth and eBusiness. etc.).
Thus, the development of information systems in the Network involves multiple technologies: networks, multimedia, intelligent systems, development and testing methodologies, knowledge management and development of hybrid systems, among others. All this applicable to bioinformatics, the environment, basic sciences, civil engineering, etc. For this reason, we believe that the proposed Doctoral Program is of great interest to our University and to its social environment. Why study the degreeICTs are one of the fundamental engines for innovation in small and medium-sized companies to improve their competitiveness both nationally and internationally. For example, in the university field, of the spin-offs generated from the Universidade da Coruña , the highest proportion have been in the field of ICT, demonstrating that economic viability and entrepreneurial spirit. In addition, in all the calls for projects, both for research and innovation, at regional, national and European level, ICTs themselves as applied in other areas continue to be a fundamental part.Lines of investigationThese are the research lines of this doctoral program:Computational astrophysics

Information Security SystemsSpecific Training ComplementsIn the event that the doctoral student lacks the complete prior training required in the program, their admission to the program may be conditional on passing specific training complements, which may be master and degree subjects or modules. Complements assigned to the same doctoral student may not exceed 15 ECTS credits and may be carried out prior to or simultaneously with enrollment in academic supervision in the program.
In case of simultaneous implementation, students must enroll in these supplements at the time of formalizing the enrollment of academic supervision in the program, which must be passed within a maximum period of three consecutive semesters. Failure to do so will cause the students to withdraw from the program.Training Activities of the ProgramPresentation Day
The objective will be to present to the students the research teams that make up the doctoral program so that the student knows the different research areas of the program.
In addition, students will be presented with the process of carrying out a doctoral thesis, and the relationship of the student with the director.
The day will be complemented with the experiences of other doctoral students, especially seniors, in order to highlight important aspects and important experiences.
Introduction to research
The main objective of this activity is for students to understand what a research project consists of and to be able to publish the results of their research work.
ICT Research
The objective of this activity is twofold. On the one hand, doctoral students must present their research work in front of the rest of the doctoral students and members of the research groups, which allows them to evaluate their work and their capacity for presentation. On the other hand, it also makes it easier for students to know first-hand the research work of their classmates, which allows them to look for points of intersection and propose improvements or new ideas.
Mobility
Throughout the entire doctorate, student mobility will be encouraged to carry out research stays with other national and international research groups.
For first-year students, the establishment of contacts with other research groups working on related topics will be facilitated. This will be done, whenever possible, by attending congresses, or if not by telematic contacts.
For the rest of the students, research stays with research groups will be encouraged and they will be supported in applying for grants for this purpose.
