Introduction
This PhD Program is organized by the University of A Coruña with the collaboration of professors from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Within the new regulations (RD 99/2011), the Program is directed towards research, development and innovation (R & D & I) in three main thematic areas: Documentation Sciences, Communication Sciences and The Humanities. All this within the context of the Knowledge Society, taking into account the developments in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and changes in the production model towards sustainable economy models.
The term "Knowledge Society" refers to the framework of the Program. The components of present-day contemporary society, both in the historical and systematic dimensions, are framed there. In this way, the title of the Program seeks to be effective: it revolves around the effective search for new perspectives in the fields of Documentation, Communication and Humanities Sciences. Thus, along with humanistic research, it serves the three levels of scientific research: Basic Science, Applied Science and the application of Science, in the thematic domains mentioned.
Why study the degree
The students can reach the necessary capacities, both methodological and procedural techniques, to make possible the realization, presentation and defense of a Doctoral Thesis in which the acquisition of new knowledge (basic, applied or effective application) in one or Several of the thematic areas presented: Information Science, Communication Sciences or the Humanities (mainly Philosophy and History). Together with them, it is possible to expand the domain of Information and Communication Technologies.
This entails a thorough examination of the state of the art in one or more of the thematic areas covered; And, in principle, fosters synergies and transfer of knowledge between different disciplinary areas, to achieve interdisciplinarity, multidisciplinarity and, where appropriate, transdisciplinarity.
What is learned
The term "Knowledge Society" refers to the thematic and historical framework, since the Program deals with new perspectives and emphasizes contemporary society today.
In this way, the effective title revolves around the search for new perspectives in the fields of Documentation Sciences, Communication Sciences and Humanities, where ICTs have a special impact.
It seeks to create and consolidate new research synergies - mainly of a multidisciplinary nature - without losing sight of applied research, as a formula for the immediate transfer of the results of scientific activity to our various productive sectors. This should lead to an improvement in the training of our researchers.
